Karan Vrinda ( DBW371)

Background:
The present high yielding variety was developed for irrigated early sown conditions with better resistance to stripe and leaf rust for North Western Plains Zone. This is the most productive zone of the country and wheat is grown in about 12-13 mha area, however farmers have only few varieties for October planting conditions. About 1 million ha area in the zone falls under ear;y sowing conditions. However there are only few varieties available to the farmers. There was need to develop high yielding variety under early sown conditions for this area for which Karan Vrinda has been recommended by Central Sub-Committee on Crop Standards, Notification and Release of Varieties for Agricultural Crops vide notification number S.O. 1056(E) dated 06th March 2023:
Technology Details:
DBW371 (75.9 q/ha) has shown significant yield superiority over all the checks and other identified and candidate varieties under two years of testing in the coordinated trials DBW 371 is a high input responsive genotype and performs better under early sown conditions with higher dose of fertilizers (150 % RDF NPK+ 15 t/ha FYM) and application of growth regulators. DBW371 has good grain appearance (6.1), high hectoliter weight (81.0), lowest phenol content (2.8) better chapati quality score (7.7), highest bread loaf volume 578ml) and high protein content (12.2%) highest grain Fe (44.9ppm) and Zn (39.9ppm) content.
